What a relief! Hurricane was over! Now the weather channel busy talking about another tropical storm and other hurricane Katia on the next coming. Seriously we had a bad weather last weekend. Windy and rainy from midnight Friday till Saturday night. Not only us having terrible weather but million people on the East coast (NC to New York to Vermont) having power outages, raining all day long.
I captured some video of hurricane Irene moment and they were taken on Saturday morning.
First video. The sound of the wind freaking me out and you can see all those trees swaying back and forth.

Second video. The wind was blowing 51 mph on that day.

Fortunately there was no roof damages and no flooding in our area. Only the tree branches fell off and scatterred all over the yard.

I tell you there is a lot of work to do after the disaster happened. It is cleaning time!

Again, the weather channel has alert us with "Hurricane Irene" since Friday last week. It would be expected coming on Friday night to Saturday. This news is not so great to hear but seriously we have to take precaution. The forecast reported that hurricane will be HIGH threat level category which we would have wind damage, downed trees, power outages, thunder storm, rain and flooding. The picture show the projected path of Hurricane Irene

And today I felt shaking around 1.55 pm to 2 pm. The shaking lasted for few seconds in the house. I have no idea what was happened and it really freaked me out. When I turned the tv on, the news channel talking about earthquake which strikes from Virginia all the way to North Carolina. OMG! This is my first experience to feel few second 5.9 magnitude earthquake and I couldn't imagine if it's more than 5.9 magnitude. If you need to read more about it, click this site.

Sunny, heat and dry. Those are the signals that summer will be arriving soon. It's been weeks that we have no raining at all. Temperatures getting warmer day after day. Feels like burning in the microwave outside. It turned me off to drive in hot weather. We also having less night time when the daytime period currently longer than 12 hours.(14 hours-sunrise 5.30 am; sunset 8.35 pm). Since the weather is consistently warm around May-June, some unexpected guests just popped up in the yard without warning. What a particular month!
I found a turtle crossing the front yard. It was a big turtle. He got into his shell when I came closer to him.
Then he started moving when I walked away from him,
The wild rabbits, they like to hop around and having meal by eating grass in the evening. Their ears are really sensitive and they will run away in a second if I go to near them. So I snuck out through window to take their pictures.
The most thing I hate is snake. I found it under the truck and I moved him away with a long stick. Even it isn't poisonous snake but I don't really wanted to be my unexpected guest.
I wish there will be rainy day in sometime soon. Have a good weekend!!

Tornado storm hit us on Saturday's night, April 16 and that was the worst weather ever happened in my place (NC). In the other word is Twister or cyclone. Actually this violent weather began Thursday in Okhlahoma, cutting across to the  Deep South on Friday and hitting North Carolina and Virginia on Saturday night.

Hearing the blast sound of the strong wind around the house, seeing flash on the sky and seeing the trees moving back and forth really frightened me. That extreme weather cumulated the rain, storm, lightning and wind.  We were in the dark when the electrical power was cut off for few hours on that night and we have to lit few candles in the house. We took precaution by updating the weather forecast with internet phone so that we could run to the safe spot in the house if the Tornado reach our house.

The tornado gone around 11.30 pm and the power back on. We felt so relieved.

On the next day  tv reported at least 21 death, 130 serious injuries and the storm demolished a lot of the houses and buildings in many places throughout NC including Jacksonville which located half an hour drive from our house.

OMG! this was really serious disaster happened in my area.
I couldn't believe it when looking all those pictures. Some pictures I attached that I got from internet. You can see more pictures in this site

I was really thankful that violent tornado didn't rip our house but I have thoughts and prayer for those who lost their homes, belongings or were injured in the storm.

And many thanks to my family in Malaysia for your prayer and concern of my safety here.

24 December 2010

Cold, freezing, icy, frost and dead looking, all those words are so popular in the cold season. I am totally hate very very cold temperature. The autumn had gone and the winter just started two days ago on 21st December according to calendar.
This cold season sometimes turned me into a lazy person and do nothing except eating hot food, drinking warm hot chocolate (French Vanilla Hot Chocolate is my favourite) and sitting in front of my laptop for hours or avoiding myself to go outside.

What a good about the cold weather? There is no mosquito or any bugs flying around or bite me while being outside and I can feel the fresh of air surrounding me.
What are not good about it ? I need to wear thermal undershirt, sweater and socks all the time to keep my body warm even the heater is on in the house. The picture below is the heater box says 85 degree fahrenheit. It's warming the house but my feet still catching the cold.

It is nice when it just cold and no wind but when the cold wind is blowing around me its making my nose start running, my fingers start  freezing, my hair catching cold and I started getting light headed.

Actually I enjoyed being outside in the cold weather when I put on proper clothing. Walking the dog is part of my daily activity so it is the right time to wear the winter gear - hat or tobaggon, gloves, scarf and thick jacket. I think I should be thankful and embrace an opportunity of the cold weather..

01 October 2010

It has been non stop raining this week. Yesterday was the worst happened to our place and in other North Carolina areas which are close to the beach. Tropical storm out at sea cause heavy rain, strong winds and electrical power disconnected for a few times in our area. I have to cancel my appointment on that day due to the bad weather.
After few hours raining, our front yard filled up with the water and some of the water from outside flowing into our garage. That would be mess because we have to dry the water out and clean the garage.
I took some pictures while it was raining. It was like a river in front of our house.

Poor watermelon plants. There are four watermelons still growing but we think they couldn't survived during the fall season.

The rain stopped about 9 pm. Our garage floor was soaking wet. I took some picture in the next morning;..Post tropical storm.

What a strange day? Yesterday was a very beautiful day, bright and sunny until in the evening. Some people spent their time at the beach for surfing and picnic. They knew the hurricane will be coming on the next day but they took that chances to enjoy every last minute. We keep watching the weather channel for the hurricane updates and warnings.

This time "Hurricane Earl" is coming, and today is the day. A hurricane is an intense, rotating oceanic weather system that possesses maximum sustained winds exceeding 119 km/hr (74 mph). It forms and intensifies over tropical oceanic regions. At the ocean’s surface, the air spirals inward in a counterclockwise direction.
We can see how it form from the satellite image

We live close to the Atlantic Beach and that was the reason why we were so concern. Hurricane Earl will hit Bogue Inlet, NC which we are located. It started breezy this morning, cloudy and the wind is blowing about 10mph. Forecast map shows how the track path of hurricane Earl

We will be waiting the possibility might be happened when it's approaching to our place.  Heavy rain, strong wind and electric cut off were had happened last year but this year might be the same thing. We pray that everything would be safe and will be clear tomorrow.
